Hiking Hacks: Spend 5 Cents

Standard, April 27, 2016, samlcook, 0 Views 0 Comments

What if I told you that you could spend 5 cents* on something that would change the way you hike forever?  And that it’s likely that it’s something you have already?

You’d probably look at me like I was a bit crazy!

So – what am I talking about?

The humble zip lock bag. It will change the way you hike – I guarantee it!

Here’s the reasons I LOVE them:

  • Snacks:  Keeps them all together in one place (not all over your backpack), without having to use bulky containers.
  • Rubbish: Pack in…pack out.  By putting your rubbish back in the zip lock bag, you won’t have a mess all over your hiking backpack (squashed banana peel anyone?), and you can just throw it straight in the bin when you get home.
  • Multi day hikes: This is where it gets really fun (sad, I know).  You can get all different sizes of zip lock bags – which you can use to help keep your belongings together, so you don’t have to go scrounging through your bag to find stuff.  Use them for: clean undies/socks, food, anything that may leak (ie sunscreen or deodorant), medications, tent pegs…the list goes on.  Basically just think of them as a way to get your bag organised – and because they are see through you can easily tell what’s inside.

Have I convinced you yet?  Do you have any other ‘Hiking Hacks’ to share?  I’d love to hear from you!

*Cost based on a 75 pack of sandwich sized zip lock bags that I bought at Coles the other day
