What first got my attention for the Leadership & Immersion Program with The Hunger Project Australia (THP) & Business Chicks was the fact that we’d get to hike up into the mountain village to do the program.

I’d get to meet new people, and hike into an area I’d never been before (and few outsiders see) – what’s not to love about that?

As I learned more about the incredible work THP do (and just knew I HAD to be involved!), this part of the experience has taken a back seat.  As has the fact that I’ll be doing a bit of extra travel before and after going to Mexico.

As I get closer (less than 3 weeks to go!) Im getting pretty excited about the many bushwalking / hiking opportunities I’ll get while I’m away.

First up will be Los Angeles.  I’ve visited LA (and other places in California) at least 8-10 times now.  Mostly I’ve gone down to Orange County and enjoyed the beaches (or Disneyland!), but this time I’m staying much closer to LA.

Where I’ll be staying will allow me to pretty much fall out my back door and have access to the hiking trails of the Palos Verdes area.

What better way to dust off the jetlag and get some well needed ‘me’ time before embarking on my life changing work with THP?

I’ll be sure to take lots of photos, and will share my experiences in future posts – so stay tuned!

The Hunger Project urges people not to wait to be rescued, but to take action now to meet their basic needs, and to end their own hunger. The Leadership and Immersion programme empowers women by giving them the skills they need to take on leadership roles and develop projects within their community so that they can go on to make lasting changes in the sanitation, education, nutrition and health of their families and villages.

As part of my involvement, I’ve committed to raising a minimum of $10,000 that will go directly to The Hunger Project.  They will use this money to empower men and women all over the world to end hunger and poverty forever.  To donate please head here.
